Ingredients:

  • 2 oz high-rye bourbon (at least 45% ABV)
  • 1 oz premium sweet red vermouth
  • 2 dashes Angostura bitters
  • 1 dash orange bitters
  • 1 brandied cherry
  • 1 small twist of orange peel

Instructions:

  1. Place your coupe or martini glass in the freezer for 10 minutes to pre-chill.
  2. In a heavy-bottomed mixing glass, combine the high-rye bourbon, sweet red vermouth, and both sets of bitters.
  3. Fill the mixing glass 3/4 full with large, solid ice cubes.
  4. Insert a bar spoon and stir gently but rapidly for 30 seconds until the mixing glass feels cold to the touch.
  5. Using a Julep or Hawthorne strainer, strain the cocktail into the chilled glassware until the last drop of amber liquid is clear.
  6. Garnish with a brandied cherry and express the oils of an orange twist over the surface if desired.
